Flag Retirement Ceremony

In 2003, we respectfully retired over 6,000 American Flags. In 2008, The G.I. Joe Post retired over 20,000 Flags, and in 2009 the numbers were even larger still.
Over the last 10 years, our Officers and Members have respectfully retired more than 100,000 US Flags.

We believe we conduct the largest Ceremony for the Disposal of Unserviceable Flags in the United States. We welcome communication from any organization conducting a larger program.
These formal proceedings are conducted in accordance with Legion regulations that were approved thru
Resolution #440, in 1937.

“Let these faded Flags of our Country be retired and destroyed with respectful and honorable rites and their places be taken by bright new Flags of the same size and kind, and let no grave of our soldier or sailor dead be unhonored and unmarked…”
